Live online movement classes for Parkinson's
Of everything you can do for yourself with Parkinson's, regular exercise has some of the strongest evidence behind it. Our live movement classes on Zoom bring that evidence into your living room — with a group that gets it.
Why movement matters in Parkinson's
Exercise is widely recommended by Parkinson's specialists. In the SPARX randomized trial (Schenkman et al., 2018, JAMA Neurology), people with early Parkinson's who were not yet on medication did high-intensity treadmill exercise (80–85% of maximum heart rate) prescribed four days a week for six months. Their motor scores changed significantly less than those of a wait-list control group (average change 0.3 vs 3.2 points on the UPDRS motor scale), and the high-intensity approach was found to be feasible and safe enough to move to a larger trial.
Movement also supports the metabolic side of the protocol: it improves insulin sensitivity, helps the body use fat and ketones, and stimulates autophagy.
What our classes look like
- Live and interactive — run on Zoom so you can join from home, see the coach, and be seen.
- Big, deliberate movements for posture, stride, balance and range of motion.
- Strength work to protect muscle — especially important when combined with fasting or keto.
- Rhythm and coordination drills, plus dual-task practice (moving while thinking).
- Options at every level — seated and standing versions, so you work hard but safely.
Who the classes are for
People living with Parkinson's at any stage who are cleared by their doctor to exercise, and care partners who want to move with them. If you have frequent falls, freezing, or heart or blood pressure issues, talk to your neurologist or a physiotherapist first and tell your coach so we can adapt.
How to join
Classes are part of Genesis membership. Once you enroll, you will receive the class schedule and private joining details inside your member area — we do not publish meeting links publicly, to keep the sessions safe and focused. Questions before you sign up? Email Lars at [email protected].
Getting the most out of each session
- Time classes for when your medication is working well (“on” time).
- Clear a space, use a sturdy chair, and keep water nearby.
- If you are fasting, keep intensity moderate until you know how your body responds — see fasting and Parkinson's.
- Log each class in GenesisAi so movement counts toward your cumulative totals.
- Aim for consistency: several sessions a week beat one heroic workout.
Movement as part of the whole protocol
Classes are one of three levers, alongside fasting and nutritional ketosis. Together they target the same goal: unwinding decades of metabolic damage and inflammation, day by day, with a coach in your corner.
Many members say the group is the best part. Parkinson's can be isolating; a live class where everyone understands is a reason to show up — and showing up is what drives results over months and years.
Exercise is not a replacement for medical care, physiotherapy or speech therapy. It works best alongside them. If your neurologist has recommended a specific programme, bring it to your coach and we will fit our classes around it.
Important: This is educational information, not medical advice. Genesis coaches are not physicians. Work with your neurologist, and do not change, stop or re-time any medication without your doctor. Ketogenic eating and fasting are not right for everyone (for example, people with diabetes on glucose-lowering drugs, a history of eating disorders, low body weight, or who are pregnant) — get medical clearance first.
Frequently asked questions
Are the movement classes live or recorded?
They are live on Zoom so the coach can see you, cue you and adapt. Members receive the schedule and joining details privately.
Do I need equipment?
No special equipment is needed. A sturdy chair, comfortable shoes, water and some floor space are enough. Light weights or bands are optional.
Is high-intensity exercise safe with Parkinson's?
The SPARX trial found high-intensity treadmill exercise feasible in early, untreated Parkinson's. Safety depends on your health, so get clearance from your doctor and work at a level your coach agrees with.
Can my care partner join?
Yes. Care partners are welcome to move alongside you.
What does it cost?
Classes are included with Genesis membership, which starts with a free 10-day trial. See the enrolment section on our homepage.
